The router is based on the latest WLAN 802.11 ac standard along with being backward compatible with older standards as well. It also has PCB mounted dual antenna array supporting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands with 100% and 30% enhanced performance. The whole thing is powered up by Broadcom 4709c processor packing 1.4 GHz dual-core processor complimented with 256 MB (1 TB version) and 512 MB (6 TB model) DDR3 RAM.

Xiaomi also mentioned that the router uses surveillance standard hard drives from Seagate and Toshiba. The read speeds go up to 115 MB/s while the writing speed goes up to 58 MB/s. The router also has 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports at the back along with 1 full-sized USB port.
