A senior Symantec manager warned a few weeks ago that traditional anti-virus software only detects around 45 per cent of malware attacks and declared the software to be ‘dead’. What does anti-virus software do?

Symantec invested in commercial antivirus software to protect computers from hackers in the 1980s. It currently sells the program Norton Antivirus, which it describes as “superior” technology that still “stops both today’s and tomorrow’s online threats”.
